There’s always something unique about each profession and Alchemy is no exception. Alchemist Stones are trinkets that only Alchemy players can use, allowing increased potion effectiveness.
Alchemy is often paired with Herbalism as a second profession. Herbalism is a gathering profession that provides many of the required materials for Alchemy recipes.
This guide is intended to help level Alchemy from level 1 all the way to 450 in the most efficient way possible.
Alchemy Trainers
Alchemy Specializations
There are 3 specializations that players can select upon reaching level 325 in Alchemy. They are Potions Master, Elixir Master, and Transmutation Master. Players must complete a quest to choose their specialization.
Master of Potions Quest: NPC: Lauranna Thar’well, Zangarmarsh [80,64] Objective: Super Healing Potion (5), Super Mana Potion (5), Major Dreamless Sleep Potion (5), and Botanist’s Field Guide (Dropped from High Botanist Freywinn, Second Boss in The Botanica, Tempest Keep) Master of Elixirs Quest: NPC: Lorokeem, Shattrath City [46,20] Objective: Elixir of Major Defense (5), Elixir of Mastery (5), Elixir of Major Agility (5), and Essence of Infinity (10) (Dropped from enemies in The Black Morass) Master of Transmutation Quest: NPC: Tinkerwiz, The Barrens [63,36] Objective: Primal Might (4)
Players can only have one specialization at a time, they can however change their specialization for a small fee of 150g. Players must visit the quest giver for their current specialization to unlearn it, then speak with any of the other trainers without having to complete the associated quest.
1 - 300: Required Materials For Classic
It’s highly recommended to have Herbalism as a second primary profession or alternatively, have another character with it. If you have the gold to spare you can purchase all of those items from other players.
Here is a list of all the items you will need in order to level from 1 to 300. We’ve also included a brief description of where to get each item. Keep in mind that depending on your luck with skill-ups you may have a surplus or deficit for some materials listed in the table below.
1 - 75: Apprentice Alchemy

300 - 350: Required Materials For The Burning Crusade
There’s still a couple of herbs in Azeroth you’ll need for the first 25 levels. You won’t need too many ingredients in this stretch of Outland so make sure to take note of these particular herbs as they will be the best way to level from 300 to 350. All these recipes are orange so you won’t need to worry about having too little of an ingredient. Decide which of the optional potions to craft ahead of time.
300 - 375: Master Alchemy

350 - 450: Required Materials For WotLK
There’s a whole lot of new herbs to be collected in the new zones of Northrend, which unfortunately you won’t be able to prepare for to level up from 350 to 450. We’ve also included a brief description of where to get each item. Keep in mind that depending on your luck with skill-ups you may have a surplus or deficit for some materials listed in the table below. This list only includes the materials needed up until Alchemy level 425. After 425, there are a number of different ways to reach 450 as detailed below.
350 - 450: Grandmaster Alchemy
350 - 360
360 - 365
365 - 375

This has a 3 day cooldown to research new recipes. If you manage to learn Potion of Speed craft that until 415 as it requires fewer materials than the ones listed below.
401 - 405

From 425 to 450, there are a number of options available depending on Auction House prices or the availability of resources. For instance, Transmutations require Mining whereas the Flasks require Herbalism. So this stage largely depends on gold or having a gathering profession.
From 425 to 440 you can Transmute: Titanium From 425 to 440 you can Transmute: Earthsiege Diamond From 430 to 450 you can Transmute: Skyflare Diamond. From 435 to 450 you can make any of the 4 flasks: Flask of Endless Rage, Flask of Pure Mojo, Flask of Stoneblood, Flask of the Frost Wyrm
